Zishavane Town Council disputes 700k Town Secretary pay rumours!!!1

Zvishavane Town Council chairperson, Khulekani Ndlovu has dismissed as falsehoods media reports that the local authority’s acting town secretary was earning over RTGS$787 000 as his salary.

There have been media reports that the acting secretary Mungororo Mazai earns $787 419 as his annual salary compared to the least worker said to be paid $10 000.

“These are falsehoods and there is nothing like that,”Ndlovu told Gweru Gazette in an interview.

The reports further claimed that Mazai was getting a monthly airtime allowance of US$200 compared to the least paid worker reported to be earning US$71 phone allowance.

There were further allegations that all heads of departments get monthly airtime stipends of US$100 per month.

The report further claimed that the top brass of the workers’ committee was suspended at the end of last month after workers protested over the matter.

But Ndlovu said the “lies” were peddled by people fighting the leadership at the town council in an attempt to paint them in “bad light.”

“There is no council employee who earns above $60 000. Besides the lowest paid grades take between $22 000 and $25 000 inclusive of their Covid-19 allowances and other benefits.”

He added:”These are just falsehoods from people who want to play political games.”

In May this year, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission arrested top council officials including town secretary Tinoda Mukutu, housing director Nhlanhla Ngwenya and town engineer Dominic Mapwashike on allegations of flouting tender procedures.

The trio have since appeared before the courts facing criminal abuse of office charges with their case still pending
